Do you ever feel like a plastic bag?
‘Cause Baby you’re a Firework
Now what on earth could Katy Perry’s song Firework have to do with RT4T or me? Well… in case you guys don’t own a calendar, July 4th is on Wednesday. The Fourth of July is definitely one of my favorite holidays. The reason? Because it’s the only holiday where you can blow things up in the name of America. Is that not what the founding fathers would want?
Come on, Show ‘em what you’re worth
Now if you’re like me, you feel the need to have to do something fun because it’s a holiday. “Well Matt, tell us what there is to do. You’re supposed to be the guy with all the information.” Okay, okay, okay, well on The Fourth of July of course everyone wants to see fireworks. And if you didn’t already know, there is a law in Polk County banning the sale of all the good fireworks. So unless you want to travel to Tampa to buy half decent fireworks you’re out of luck. But, have no fear – there are tons of places around that will be shooting off fireworks and hosting other fun Fourth of July activities. Here’s a list of just a few:
Lakeland:
July 3rd – Fireworks: Lakeland’s annual Red, White and Kaboom features live music and food vendors beginning at 6:00 PM, with a fireworks display at 9:00 PM. Bring a blanket and the family and enjoy this FREE show on the lawn of the Lake Mirror Pr0menade. All spectators are asked to bring a canned item for the Chow for Now food drive, which benefits VISTE (Volunteers in Service to the Elderly).
July 4th – Fireworks: the annual fireworks display at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland will be held again this year. Fireworks start after the Lakeland Flying Tigers baseball game. Tickets to the game cost $5 for adults, $4 for children and seniors. Or you can park somewhere surrounding the field and still catch the fireworks show.
Bartow:
July 4th – Extravaganza: the Bartow Adult Concert Band will be performing at 2:30 PM at the Bartow Civic Center. The Bartow Extravaganza at IMC/Mosaic Park begins at 3:45 PM and will include a carnival, children’s activities and food. Fireworks start at 9:30 PM at IMC / Mosaic Park.
Haines City:
July 4th – Thunder on the Ridge: the famous Thunder on the Ridge celebration begins with activities starting at noon on Wednesday with children’s games, craft displays, concerts by Blackhawk and Cledus T. Judd. Fireworks start at 9:15 PM with perhaps the largest fireworks display in the area. All activities take place at Lake Eva Park.
Lake Wales:
July 4th – Fireworks: the activities in Lake Wales begin bright and early at 8:00 AM with a 5K run at Kiwanis Park. Other festivities being held throughout the day include frisbee golf, bike races, canoe rides, soccer, helicopter rides and sailboat races, patriotic dog contest, patriotic baby contest, and more. Fireworks begin at 9:15 PM.
Highlands County:
July 3rd – Lake Placid will hold its fireworks display beginning at 9:00 PM.
July 4th – Sebring and Avon Park will both hold their fireworks starting at 9:00 PM.
Tampa Teens:

Boom, Boom, Boom
Even Brighter than the moon, moon moon
Well I hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July. Let me know what you guys have planned. As for myself, I’m going to a huge music festival in Orlando that is going to be sweet.
Here’s a tip: Don’t grab the end of a sparkler. It hurts. I know from experience.
