Wow! It seems like the Grammys were just yesterday. It’s crazy to think that The Oscars are on Sunday. And holy cow – I’m excited!!! There have been a ton of great movies this season, some of which I did reviews on, and I’m really excited to see who goes home with the gold statues. Here are some of the most important categories with who I think is going to take home the award.
Actress in a Supporting Role
- Amy Adams: The Master
- Sally Field: Lincoln
- Anne Hathaway: Les Misérables
- Helen Hunt: The Sessions
- Jacki Weaver: Silver Linings Playbook
I definitely have to say this is an easy pick, Anne Hathaway. I did a blog post on Le Miz a month or two ago, and her performance was incredible. Tears. So many tears. All the tears. Also, all the Oscars!
Actor in a Supporting Role
- Alan Arkin: Argo
- Robert De Niro: Silver Linings Playbook
- Philip Seymour Hoffman: The Master
- Tommy Lee Jones: Lincoln
- Christoph Waltz: Django Unchained
This one is the biggest toss up. Interestingly enough, all the actors in this category have won Oscars previously. I’m going to have to say, Tommy Lee Jones. In Lincoln, he played a very headstrong House of Representatives member doing everything he could to abolish slavery. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Christoph Waltz took it home. He won the Golden Globe this year, and his track record with Tarantino is pretty great. He won this award two years back.
Actress in a Leading Role
- Jessica Chastain: Zero Dark Thirty
- Jennifer Lawrence: Silver Linings Playbook
- Emmanuelle Riva: Amour
- Quvenzhané Wallis: Beasts of the Southern Wild
- Naomi Watts: The Impossible
This one is pretty tough for me to pick. The only movie I’ve seen in this category is Silver Linings Playbook, however, I thought Jennifer Lawrence did a great job, even though I usually don’t really like her. So I’m going to have to go with her. She also won the Golden Globe, so I could be right!
Actor in a Leading Role
- Bradley Cooper: Silver Linings Playbook
- Daniel Day-Lewis: Lincoln
- Hugh Jackman: Les Misérables
- Joaquin Phoenix: The Master
- Denzel Washington: Flight
This was another category where all the performances were top notch. But, you would expect nothing less to be considered for an Oscar. Daniel Day-Lewis takes it home. He played Abraham Lincoln and was incredible! Go see Lincoln! Do it! However, we could be looking at a possible upset from Denzel. Keep your eye out!
- Beasts of the Southern Wild
- Django Unchained
- Les Misérables
- Life of Pi
- Silver Linings Playbook
- Zero Dark Thirty
Here we are. The biggest category. The moment we have all been waiting for. There are so many good movies! I can’t choose!! But, I must. I do it for you. My choice… for Best Picture… is… Lincoln. People are saying Argo is going to take it, but I just can’t choose it over Lincoln. I haven’t seen Argo, and I’m sure it’s great, but Lincoln was just too good. I guess we will see on Sunday.
You know this is just my opinion, right?
I don’t claim to be some brilliant Oscar predictor, but these are my picks. Sunday night we will find out if I know what I’m talking about, I probably don’t. But, I love movies, forever and always. What was your favorite movie of this year?
